Engineering鈥檚 Chalise Earns Summer Faculty Research Fellowships

Batu Chalise, Ph.D., assistant professor of聽electrical and computer engineering, has been awarded the prestigious Office of the Naval Research (ONR) 聽and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Summer Faculty Research Fellowships for 2020. As the ONR Fellow, he will spend 10 continuous weeks this summer at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C. to conduct cutting-edge research on distributed detection theory and resource allocation for multiple input, multiple output, and passive radar systems. Additionally, as an AFRL Fellow, he will spend eight continuous weeks this summer at AFRL Sensors Directorate at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, to develop deep learning techniques for multiple target tracking in surveillance radar systems.

Chalise considers these Fellowships as an excellent opportunity to closely work with the researchers and engineers at the Naval Research Laboratory and Air Force Research Laboratory on the latest applied research on radar systems. 鈥淚 am looking forward to utilizing this opportunity for establishing collaborations with these labs and exploring their possible support to fund research and educational activities at 懂色帝,鈥 he said.
